The IT program at Algoma U prepares students to work as the interface between people and computer technologies; a user's advocate who can design, implement, and manage the technologies that serve the users. Graduate-Level Studies At Algoma U
Master of Science in Computer Games Technology
Algoma U is set to become the exclusive host in North America for the Master of Science (MSc) Computer Games Technology offered by the University of Abertay Dundee, Scotland.
This is the first Masters-level degree in computer games technology to be offered in Canada, as well as teh first MSc in this feild in North America. Students in the program will study on the Algoma U campus in Sault Ste. Marie, and receive instruction from the University of Abertay Dundee's highly experienced and authoriative faculty in Dundee via state of the art video-conferencing technology.
The MSc CGT programs runs for three semesters over 12 months including 2 semesters of lectures and laboratories, followed by one semester of team-based project work involving the design and test of a prototype game, and concluding with a Masters dissertation. Students will study Game Design and Development, Programming Games on the PC and Xbox, The Games Marketplace, Console Game Development and Artificial Intelligence for Games. The course emphasizes the creation of a set of significant portfolio software pieces to show future employers.
Graduates of the MSC Computer Games Technology program have gone on to succesful careers in Computer Games Development, Graphics and Visualization, Multimedia and Education. Typcial job titles include Games Programmer, DirectX Programmer, AI Specialist Programmer and Console Programmer. Employers range in size from small local companies to large multinational enterprises with offices all over the world.
